The spinal roll - If you do one move today make it this

IMG_6088.jpg

Give your spine some love.

This very quick move will mobilise the spine and help to restore your posture.

Stand with your feet hip width and bend your knees as you begin to fold forward letting your hands meet the floor (or maybe your shins).

Lift your navel to your spine and feel the muscles along your lumbar spine lengthening.

As you roll up, inhale trying to feel each vertebrae. Exhale as your hands come to rest (palm to palm) at your chest. Inhale again to lift your hands over your head.

Can you feel your entire spine?

Can you feel from the crown of your head to your tailbone?

inhale again as you gaze upward. How does it feel?

As you exhale, lead with the crown of your head (letting your arms circle sideways) to arrive back in a forward fold. Bend your knees to help the articulation of the spine and try to avoid just tilting the pelvis forward in an effort to reach the floor. Let the crown of your head lead you into your forward fold

Slow it down, feel the entire movement and repeat as many times as you like. Try it as soon as you get out of bed or whenever you feel like you need to move. It’s an instant hit of energy. It definitely sparks the vitality you have within you. This move inspires a great day. Enjoy! (oh and definitely no balancing on stools needed to complete this move.)
